When you are a designer and you are challenged to combine the unparalleled riding attributes of the Santos Travelmaster 2.8 Alu with the unique character of a steel frame, then you can be very, very proud of the final result: the Santos Travelmaster 2.8 CroMo. This bike looks elegant, graceful and almost classical but, importantly, it has sportier and more enjoyable handling than the traditional randonneurs that are usually held up as an example of a steel touring bike.

The Travelmaster 2.8 CroMo has, at first glance, a classic look that is enhanced by the graceful cable stops (with anti-scratch guidance) on the head tube. Beyond the classic look, the similarity ends. The difference with a classical randonneur is that this bike - due to the slightly shorter build and the use of a sloping crossbar, as well as the ability to use low profile 28mm tyres or thicker 50mm tyres - is able to provide both a racy and a smooth ride.
Above all, the wonder of this frame is that through choosing a different build and specific components in the customizer for a different structure and specific components selected, it can be very nicely honed to suit different applications. For example; the step to change a robust touring bike with trekking handlebars into a classic randonneur with racing handlebars is very small. Most importantly, it is a frame that, in all different possibilities, still retains its own character. And that is a great quality.

Entirely hand built touring bike
Santos ... that is handwork! The Santos Travelmaster 2.8 CroMo is also completely hand made and built. For the frame we use high-end CroMo seamless drawn tubes of the highest quality that are beautifully finished at the seams. The wide forks allow room for tyres up to 50mm in diameter, and there is room for three bottle holders. The frame is available as a derailleur or as a Rohloff eccentric bracket version, and in five sizes.

Specially selected components for the touring bike
For construction of the Travelmaster frames, you can make choices from a special assortment of parts that we have selected for these bikes, using the customizer on this website. All these components have been tested in practice for many years and have proven to be the best of their kind. For example: Tubus carriers, Schwalbe Marathon XR tyres and our own heavy duty touring wheels (wheels that are handbuilt by us with extra strong DT Alpine 3 triple butted spokes, DT ProLock spoke nipples and special touring rims).

On all our Travelmasters we give a guarantee of 10 years on the frame and the cro-mo front fork.
